"A Colorado Artist in the Natural World: Nature and Beyond"
Jean Stortz Exhibit
March 27th - April 28th
Artist Reception March 29th 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Chronicling an ever changing life through art is my journey as an artist. My Art has changed over the years, depending on where I lived. My lifetime of art has included: painting oil and acrylic, collage, pastel, colored pencil, 2D and 3D mixed media.
After a dry spell during the Covid years, I am newly inspired. Currently an intense use of color in 2D mixed media is giving me much joy. Nature and abstraction are my go to.

Natural environments varied with each of my relocations; Minnesota, Texas, Colorado, raising my boys in Minnesota and now back in Colorado on the Western Slope. Nature has always been my refuge, my meditation, my inspiration, my joy.
Changing locales always breeds inspiration. ‘Living with Men who Fish’, (a book I’ve pondered writing) has been evident in many of my paintings. They were realistic in the past and now a bit more abstract.

"A Shared Vision"
Lanny Grant & Rebecca Swain-Grant Exhibit
April 29th - June 2nd
Artist Reception May 3rd 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Mendota Peak
A native of Western Colorado, Lanny Grant resides near the small community of Silt not far from where he grew up on his father's ranch in Peach Valley. Family camping and fishing trips in the Colorado mountains became sketching trips as Lanny began his artistic efforts at an early age. Developing a lifelong love for the high country, Lanny was mostly self-taught and started painting in oils at the age of ten.
Coxcomb Peak
Lanny met New Mexico artist Ben Turner in 1965 and was impressed with Turner's ability to paint mountain landscapes. After graduating from high school in 1971 Grant attended Adams State
College in Alamosa, Colorado where he gained a knowledge of art history, painting,
sculpture and life drawing. During his study at Adams State, Lanny made frequent trips to
New Mexico, gaining an appreciation for the early master painters of the Taos and Santa
Fe area. Grant studied portrait painting with Dallas artist Ramon Froman during the
summers of 1972, 1973 & 1974 in Cloudcroft, New Mexico.

Froman's teaching
concentrated on five solid fundamentals of painting: Observation, Drawing, Design, Values & Color. Grant focused on these principles and has evolved his own style of
painting through dedicated work and practice. Another local western artist, Jack Roberts, also encouraged Grant throughout his career. Lanny met Conrad Schwiering in Jackson,
Wyoming in 1985 who critiqued his work and encouraged him to work directly from Nature.

Uncompahgre Peak
Greg McHuron, another Jackson artist who became a close friend and mentor, also stressed the importance of plein air painting. Lanny took the advice to heart, and has devoted many years to working outside, resulting in his accurate translations of the many
moods of the high country. Always drawn to remote and wild places, Grant continues to
explore new areas to paint, including making annual painting pack trips with fellow artist Tucker Smith into the vast Wind River Range in Wyoming.

Serenity
Using a more graphic approach to composition and design that comes from her illustration background she tries to describe the intensity of the west as it was lived in the past and still is today by a select few weathered souls.
